Breastfeeding Support
Many women choose to breastfeed their baby and look forward to the special bonding, the health benefits for both baby and mother, and the awareness that their body is perfectly designed to provide the perfect food for their baby. We believe that because we have breasts that fill with milk and our babies are born knowing how to suck that breastfeeding will come easily. However, breastfeeding is a dance between mother and baby. Both must learn the steps to this "dance". Oftentimes the learning curve is steep.
In our strong desire to breastfeed our babies, we are willing to withstand damaged nipples, engorgement, and feedings that can last up to 2 hours.
As a lactation educator, I am trained to help families overcome the normal challenges of early breastfeeding. Together we discuss:
- how to recognize a good latch
- various nursing positions
- comfort measures
- how to know if your baby is getting enough milk
- pumping
- breast milk storage
