Private Childbirth Education
Women’s bodies know how to give birth. We have been doing it since the beginning of time. However, we have come to question our innate knowing and our ability to go through the labor and birth process. We question if we are strong enough to handle the pain but with knowledge, practice and support all of us can do it. Some women will give birth without medication, some will choose to use medication, and some will have a cesarean section. Some women will give birth in hospitals, others will choose a birth center or their home. But for all women, when planning their birth, knowledge and confidence in this ancient process are key!
Sometimes it is not possible or desirable for a family to participate in a group childbirth education class. One of the options is private childbirth education.
Private childbirth education classes are perfect for moms on bedrest and therefore, cannot attend traditional childbirth classes.
My classes are based on several different approaches to childbirth. As a private instructor my goal is to guide women and partners on their path as they explore their own way through labor and birth.
I tailor my individual classes to your needs and concerns. We will discuss the many aspects of becoming parents. We may choose to explore the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, labor & childbirth as well as the many emotions that will be experienced along the way. We will discuss common medical interventions, medications and cesarean sections.
Topics that we will explore:
What you have heard about labor and what that means for you
The stages and phases of labor
Medications and potential interventions
Labor coping strategies including breathing, relaxation, massage and position changes
2nd stage of labor – pushing
Breastfeeding – colostrum, positioning, latch and patience
Caring for yourself in the postpartum period
Is it is baby blues or postpartum depression?
