Eastside Doula Care
My name is Debra Shelden. I am the proud mother of 2 wonderful young men. I have a BS in Special Education and as a teacher, specialized in working with pervasively developmentally delayed and autistic people. I have also been an amateur actress since my teenage years.
I am now a birth and postpartum doula, a childbirth educator, a lactation educator, a certified Happiest Baby on the Block educator and a Bringing Baby Home facilitator. I received my doula training from the Seattle Midwifery School in 2001. I am certified with DONA International and PALS Doulas. I trained at CEAS (Childbirth Education Association of Seattle - www.greatstarts.org) to become a childbirth educator and have taught childbirth education classes privately and at Evergreen Hospital. I participated in an intensive lactation training at Evergreen Hospital to become a lactation specialist. I have served as the Washington State Representative for DONA International and on the Board of Directors of Postpartum Support International of Washington State. I currently serve on the PALS Doulas Board of Directors as the coordinator for the Apprenticeship Progam. In addition, I sit on the REACHE Board of Directors.
As a doula, it is my privilege to witness women in the midst of their awesome strength and power. I am able to remind women that these are qualities that they can access in their daily lives. I come to this field with passion, compassion and a commitment to helping women and their families have a birth and postpartum experience that is one that they will remember with clarity and a sense of empowerment.
